Santa's Workshop

I visited Santa's Workshop yesterday afternoon--aka my friend Anna's lounge room. She was working on circle skirts as Christmas gifts for her nieces. She'd chosen Windsor Satin with matching cotton prints to reflect each girl's tastes and interests. She made the main skirts out of the satin and used the cotton print to make a bias edging for the hem and a waist casing.
Since the girls are still quite small, Anna was able to cut the whole circle for each skirt out of a single piece of satin.

I loved the juxtaposition of Anna with her scientific calculator and the pretty pink satin: here she is calculating 2 x pi x radius to check the size of the waist opening. Of course sewing is perfect combination of science and arts!
